The National Golf Club on the Mornington Peninsula produced a Limited Edition book depicting the courses and atmosphere of their great club. Their dedication and desire to produce a volume of uncompromising quality resulted in a book of which the club is justifiably proud.
Simon Hughes, the graphic designer for the book, wrote an article for the club newsletter reviewing a night where his work reaped its rewards.
National ‘cleans up’ at Print Awards
It was with much anticipation and excitement that my wife Susan and I made our way up to Sydney for the 21st Australian National Print Awards, held at the Darling Harbour Convention Centre.
Hosted by Vince Sorrenti and Sandra Sully, the night is the printing industry equivalent of the Academy Awards. Gold, silver and bronze medals being awarded in over 50 different categories.
We were invited to the awards by Penfold Buscombe, the printers of the book, who had entered it in the category of ‘Book Printing-Colour’. Not only did we take out the gold medal in this category, but we also took out the ‘Heidelberg Award for Excellence in Craft’, which is the highest award given on the night. Our book was judged as the best example of print above all of the other 30 gold medal winners.
It was a great honour to be part of such a wonderful evening and to receive this kind of recognition for our
book. It really made all the blood, sweat and tears (believe me there were plenty of these!) worthwhile. It was a true reflection of the commitment of everybody involved in the project. Of course none of this would have been possible had there not been the support of the Board and ultimately the members who pre-ordered a book in advance. So thank you to you all.
Not only are we all lucky enough to be members of arguably one of the finest golfing destinations in the world, but we have a gold medal winning book that showcases every hole in all its glory.
